From the Superintendent’s desk
January 2012
I hope this article finds you full of New Year’s excitement
and resolutions for improvement. As you
may know the Sturgeon school district is making a couple of large upcoming
improvements. The gym floor in the K-8
gym will be removed and replaced over the upcoming summer. The floor is the original from when the
building was constructed. This much
needed improvement will be accomplished using remaining bond proceeds and will
begin very shortly after school dismisses for the summer.
Another improvement includes a new overflow section of
bleachers in the H.S. This project was
brought to the attention of the administration by an anonymous alumni
donor. The request was to provide and
install a new 60’ section of bleachers 8 rows high on the east side of the
gymnasium which will seat an approximate 278 persons. The donor provided the bulk of the funds for
this project with the district providing the rest. These bleachers will be pulled out only when the gym starts to reach maximum capacity for
events.
This is a very busy time of the year with basketball
tournaments, quiz bowl matches, and dances.
I hope that you can take some time to come out and support our students
in their competitions. It makes such a
big impact on the students when they have a gym full of supportive fans.
I will close by thanking all of the school board members,
staff, parents, and patrons for their support of our district and our
students. Only with the help of all of
you will our students continue to be successful academically and in all of
their activities.
